Its a great question and something that many people at all levels in any organisation strive for. My own experience in a Director position, is that in the past at prior organisations, I have found it to be difficult to achieve, and being completely honest, its not 'easy' in any business.
What I can say about my experience of life at First Central is that there is no expectation that people will work long and unsociable hours, a positive work life balance is actively encouraged, and my own line manager, a member of our executive committee is a great role model through his actions in visibly making time for family activities.
Within my own team, I have a mantra of outcomes over hours; colleagues have a choice over when and where they wish to work, and I am completely unfussed by the decisions they make, provided the outcomes we agree are achieved.
From a personal perspective, I walk my dog every morning, every evening, and pretty much every lunchtime, I choose to sometimes work later and start earlier, and I cannot remember the last time I worked over the weekend (but if I wanted to, I could).
So, I don't think its ever easy, but my experience of life here at FCG is that you have choice, and it's very possible, and encouraged, to strike a positive work life balance (whatever that means to every individual).
